In 1978, Kate Bush was only 19 when her song, based on an Emily Bronte novel, "Wuthering Heights" became a number one hit on the British Pop charts. She soon released The Kick Inside to capitalize on the success of her single. The album was successful, reaching number three on the UK charts and selling over a million copies, even though it contained material written by Bush from the ages of 16 to 19. Kate Bush is known for her folk style music and her haunting voice, which has kept her fans interested in her career even after long lapses between albums. Bush released Lionheart in 1979 and embarked on a supporting tour, the only tour of her career. Since, Bush has only performed in select and rare concert appearances and for charities. Never for Ever was released in 1980 and contained Bush's second Top Five hit, "Babooshka". The Dreaming was released (without a hit single) in 1982, Hounds of Love in 1985, The Whole Story in 1987, The Sensual World in 1989, The Red Shoes in 1993, and Aerial in 2005.

Kate Bush was a beacon for pure, clean, creative music in a time of synthesizers and electric guitars. Her lyrics are about sincere experiences and have a certain familiarity to them that isn't found with every folk singer.
